Bevy Jam 3 - My First Bevy Game

Bevy was an engine I wanted to try. So I decided to join Bevy Jam 3, about 4 days after it started.

This was my first experience with this engine but it went fine. Bevy official examples were really helpful. At first I doubted whether I can finish the game but it was possible by keeping the scope reasonable. I had lots of free time too.

First phases of development:

In this version, there was "nanomachine health" separate from patient health. But this was needlessly overcomplicating the gameplay and was removed as a result in subsequent versions.

The main idea of game is that if you miss shots, you will create side effects on the side of the screen. Many gameplay components were adjusted according to this. Nanomachine health mechanic didn't help this premise.

The core gameplay loop was done by Saturday. After that, I created all graphics in Krita in a few hours. I'm reasonably happy with how the game looks. If I had more time, I would have added soft shadows to make the shapes pop.

In Sunday, I created the music. I composed the in-game music with a constant heart monitor sound so that it creates a medical feeling that fits the game's theme. Game over track begins with a longer beep sound that emulates the end of the patient's heartbeat. The music turned out better than I expected. The first comment this game got mentioned nothing but music.

I didn't really have a plan before the jam, it all evolved spontaneously. I think this was a better way to approach the game development. To be honest, I don't understand the "dream game" idea because of this reason. It never ends up as you expect. You need to experiment and make mistakes.
